How to Book a Gospel Band for a Wedding in Nigeria (Without Stories)

A live band is the difference between a reception people attend and one they talk about for a year. It is also one of the easiest places for a wedding budget to catch fire. Here is how to book one properly.

What a gospel band costs in 2026

• Small unit (keys, drums, one vocalist): ₦150,000 – ₦300,000
• Standard band (keys, drums, bass, lead, 2 vocalists): ₦300,000 – ₦700,000 in Lagos
• Premium band with horns section: ₦700,000 – ₦1.5m+

Prices outside Lagos run 30–50% lower. Whatever the quote, ask what it includes: sound equipment, transport, matching outfits, and how many hours on stage.

Book in this order

• Lock the date 2–3 months out. Good bands are gone 6 weeks before Easter, December and Valentine weekends.
• Watch them play — live if possible, video minimum. Any serious band has clips. No clips, no booking.
• Agree the song list in writing. 'We know all songs' is not an answer; share your must-plays and your do-not-plays.
• Pay a deposit, never the full fee. 30–50% upfront is standard. Hold the balance until they have played.
• Confirm the sound plan. Who brings speakers? Who mixes? A great band through a bad mixer is a bad band.

Red flags

• No physical address or church affiliation anyone can vouch for.
• Demands 100% payment before the event 'to secure the date'.
• Won't do a video call or send recent performance clips.
• Quote changes every time you talk.
